The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I’ll start with the good. The Flathead Reunion is two weeks away as I write this and it looks like I will get the ’50 put back together in time to drive to Vermont. Needless to say I am pretty excited about that.
Once again I was able to go to the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk Ohio and had a good time. The weather was still hot, but not unbearably hot like it has been most of my summer. Because of my NHRA connections I was brought in to handle some of the special programs in the drag racing half of the event. It kept me busy for the first two days of the event and part of the third day as well. I’m lucky enough to get a golf cart included in my fee so I did get a chance to go to the swap meet and car show for a couple of seconds. The swap meet was good; I looked at a few things, but did not see anything that I really had to have. As for the show, I only had time to look at the flathead cars and I’m not sure I saw all of them, but I did look at eleven of them and they were all nice. Club members showing included Jim Barnhart, Ralph and Ellen Hamilton, and Ron and Betsy Thomas. I saw Paul and Marjo Prinzing for a second, I think they were showing a late model car. Ron and Betsy Thomas showed a ’29 cabriolet, an absolutely gorgeous car that won editor’s choice from Don Keefe at Smoke Signals Magazine. I went home before trophies were presented I’m sorry to say. It is a 475 mile trip home!
Now for the bad. Last month I mentioned that I was under the impression the Dayton POCI Convention lost money. I have been informed that was not the case. I hate it when I am wrong!
And at last we get to the ugly. I’m a person who believes in fair play so I feel obligated to apologize for that Dayton Convention statement. None of these facts and figures are ever made public, so all I can do is look with my own eyes and draw my own conclusions. Sometimes I miss the mark I guess.
Next month I will get to talk about how the Flathead Reunion went. I’m looking forward to that!
